Autumn 2018

Week 7 - Week beginning with 17.12.18

This week, we will be:

  • writing instructions in Literacy.
  • creating adverts in Topic.
  • practising for our Christmas Coffee Morning!

 

In Maths, Mrs Frost and Miss Hill's classes will be solving multiplication word problems,  Miss Robinson's class will finishing their topic about money, and Miss Henninger's, Mrs Howard and Mrs Wakeling's class will be learning how to make change and setting up our very own shop!

 

Reminders:

 

Year 3 Christmas Party on the afternoon of Monday 17th December. Children are allowed to bring in their own party clothes to change into after lunch. We will also have a party buffet with lots of yummy treats. Please send your child in with the treat they signed up for in class. Please ensure it is nut free!

 

Our  Christmas Coffee Morning is on Wednesday 19th December and will run from approximately 9:15 to 9:45 am. Tickets are not required but a collection will be taken afterwards in aid of Framework if you wish to contribute. Coffee, tea and mince pies will also be available for purchase. Ask your children what song they are singing so they can practise at home!

 

Lastly, on Friday 21st December, we will be having a toy day! Children can bring in one toy or board game of their choice labelled with their name. We ask that they do not bring any electrical items. 

Week 6 - Week beginning with 10.12.18

This week, we will be:

  • creating our own pop up books for our Egyptian adventure stories in Literacy.
  • modelling and painting our clay Egyptian tablets in Art.
  • learning about Egyptian gods and goddesses in history.

 

In Maths, Mrs Frost and Miss Hill's classes will be problem solving using scaling,  Miss Robinson's class will be learning about money, and Miss Henninger's, Mrs Howard and Mrs Wakeling's class will be learning about how to solve division problems with remainders as well as reviewing money.

 

Year 3 will also be practising their songs for the Christmas Coffee Morning. These lyrics will be posted under the Homework tab and also sent home with the children to practise. Our performance is on Wednesday 19th December and will run from approximately 9:15 to 9:45 am. This week, we will be:

  • analysing stories with historical settings linked to our Egypt topic
  • continuing our learning about shadow in Science.
  • learning about famous Pharaohs in history.

 

In Maths, Mrs Frost and Miss Hill's classes will be continuing their learning about time,  Miss Robinson's class will be continuing their learning about division, and Miss Henninger's, Mrs Howard and Mrs Wakeling's class will be be learning how to solve problems using short division.

Mummification Documentary

We absolutely loved learning about the mummification process this week. Here is an example of one of the documentaries we planned and recorded. Enjoy!

Week 4 - Week beginning with 26.11.18

This week, we will be:

  • researching the process of mummification to film documentaries in Literacy.
  • learning about shadow in Science.
  • investigating the purpose and importance of a shaduf in history.

 

In Maths, Mrs Frost and Miss Hill's classes will be learning about time,  Miss Robinson's class will be continuing their learning about division, and Miss Henninger's, Mrs Howard and Mrs Wakeling's class will be beginning using the Singapore bar method to solve division problems.

Week 3 - Week beginning with 19.11.18

This week, we will be:

  • editing and performing our very own playscripts
  • learning about the eye and its connection to light in Science
  • investigating the importance of the Nile River in History.

 

In Maths, Mrs Frost and Miss Hill's classes will be learning about budgeting,  Miss Robinson's class will be beginning addition, and Miss Henninger's, Mrs Howard and Mrs Wakeling's class will be applying written methods of multiplication to solve problems.

 

This week is Careers Week! Each class will have the opportunity to take part in the Careers Fair on Wednesday morning as well as participate in maths and topic lessons connected with careers and goal setting. If you would like to come in to speak to your child's class about your career, please speak to the classroom teacher. On Friday, children can come to school dressed up as a job/career they would like to do when they grow up.

Week 2 - Week beginning with 12.11.18

This week, we will be:

  • writing our own playscripts
  • creating a timeline in history
  • learning about translucent, transparent and opaque materials in Science.

 

In Maths, Mrs Frost and Miss Hill's classes will be learning about money,  Miss Robinson's class will be continuing multiplication, and Miss Henninger's, Mrs Howard and Mrs Wakeling's class will be begin to learn about written methods for multiplication.

 

Reminder: Friday is Children in Need Day! If children would like to wear their spotty outfits or pajamas, they can bring in £1.

Week 1 - Week beginning with 5.11.18

This week, we will be:

  • finding features and performing playscripts
  • learning how to recognise bullying.
  • writing a diary entry from the perspective of an Egyptian pyramid builder.

 

In Maths, Mrs Frost and Miss Hill's classes will be learning about division,  Miss Robinson's class will be beginning multiplication, and Miss Henninger's, Mrs Howard and Mrs Wakeling's class will finding multiples of 4, 8, 50 and 100.

 

Reminder: Children should have a full outdoor PE kit as well as trainers. Plimsoles are not acceptable for outside. 

October Half Term

Week 7 - Week beginning with 15.10.18

This week, we will be:

  • creating our very own fairy tale books in Literacy
  • constructing our very own Eurostar tunnels!

 

In Maths, Mrs Frost and Miss Hill's classes will be solving problems involving multiplication,  Miss Robinson's class will be beginning subtraction, and Miss Henninger's, Mrs Howard and Mrs Wakeling's class will consolidating their learning of place value, addition and subtraction.

 

Reminder: Parents' Evening on Monday and Tuesday. Please come down to your child's classroom and have a look at their books while you wait. 

 

This week, Year 3 classes will be going to the comp to participate in a Dance Workshop. Please ensure that they have their indoor PE kit with this this week.

Week 6 - Week beginning with 08.10.18

This week, we will be:

  • writing our own version of Little Red Riding Hood 
  • continuing our learning about Christianity and Sikhism
  • creating our very own Eurostar carriages in DT!

 

In Maths, Mrs Frost and Miss Hill's classes will be learning about multiplication. Miss Robinson's class will be continuing addition, and Miss Henninger's, Mrs Howard and Mrs Wakeling's class will be applying what they know about addition and subtraction to solve reasoning problems.

 

Note: As it is getting cooler, please ensure your child has an appropriate PE kit for their Games day. We will be outside for at least 45 minutes, so children should have jogging bottoms as well as a hoodie of some sort.This is in addition to their indoor PE kit.

They will also need trainers, as they are not permitted to wear plimsoles outside. 

Week 5 - Week beginning with 01.10.18

This week, we will be:

  • looking at the features of fairy tales in literacy 
  • investigating friction in Science
  • designing our very own Eurostar carriages in DT!

 

In Maths, Mrs Frost and Miss Hill's classes will be continuing their learning about column subtraction. Miss Robinson's class will be beginning addition, and Miss Henninger's, Mrs Howard and Mrs Wakeling's class will be learning about subtraction.

 

Reminder: INSET on Friday

 

Note: As it is getting cooler, please ensure your child has an appropriate PE kit for their Games day. We will be outside for at least 45 minutes, so children should have jogging bottoms as well as a hoodie of some sort.This is in addition to their indoor PE kit.

They will also need trainers, as they are not permitted to wear plimsoles outside. 

 

 

Week 4 - Week beginning with 24.09.18

This week, we will be:

  • writing letters in Literacy
  • learning how to use a compass and coordinates in Geography
  • making and eating our very own French baguettes!

 

In Maths, Mrs Frost and Miss Hill's classes will be using written methods to solve addition and subtraction problems. Miss Robinson's class will be continuing their learning about place value, and Miss Henninger's, Mrs Howard and Mrs Wakeling's class will be learning about addition.

Week 3 - Week beginning with 17.09.18

This week, we will be:

  • creating our own information texts based on our research about France
  • conducting an investigation in Science using magnets
  • designing our very own baguettes in D.T.

 

In Maths, Mrs Frost and Miss Hill's classes will be learning about addition and subtraction. Miss Robinson's, Miss Henninger's and Mrs Howard and Mrs Wakeling's class will be continuing their learning about place value. 

 

Note: Letters will be going out this week regarding one of our lessons in D.T. Please ensure you receive this from your child. 

Week 2 - Week beginning with 10.09.18

This week, we will be:

  • beginning our Minpins book in Focused Writing
  • continuing our learning about place value in Maths
  • tasting some lovely French food in DT

 

Reminder - teachers will wait at their classroom doors for children at the start of the day. Children are allowed to make their way down to the classroom once "In time" has been called. At the end of the day, children will make their own way to you on the top playground. Please ensure you and your child have a special meeting place which you are both aware of. 

 

If your child will be collected by anyone but yourselves, please put a note to their teacher in the organiser. 

 

Note: Mrs Frost's and Miss Hill's Maths classes have not been assigned homework yet. This will be given out next Thursday. 

 

Week 1 - Week beginning with 03.09.18

We have had a fabulous start to Year 3! This week, we have enjoyed learning about the new rules and routines, our France topic and investigating magnets! On Thursday, we participated in Character Curriculum day. Children participated in a variety of activities to learn about different character traits that we can develop throughout the year.
