Week beginning 19.11.18

Here is a flavour of what we will be getting up to this week.

Focused Writing - All of our focused writing this half term will be based on a book called 'The Ice Palace' by Robert Swindells

Literacy - We will start to look at the features of a myth.

Science - We continue to further investigate the parts which make up the digestive system and how they work.

History - This week, we will be tasting food which would have been eaten during Roman times.

 

This week is also Careers Week so there will be a range of activities planned throughout the week linked to this theme.  Remember, on Friday, you can come to school dressed in an outfit to show what job you would like to do in the future.

 

We have enjoyed finding out about different types of careers at our Career Fair today (Wednesday).

 

 

Remember to keep practising the spellings provided in your spelling homework folder.  Monday's test will be on words which contain a split vowel digrah (eg confuse) along with some words from the Year 3/4 spelling list (these can be found in the back of your organiser).  There will also be words from a previous test thrown in!

 

Check the homework tab for this week's class and maths homework which will give details about what your child has been doing this week and what they will be doing the following week.

Week beginning 12.11.18

Here is a flavour of what we will be getting up to this week.

Focused Writing - All of our focused writing this half term will be based on a book called 'The Ice Palace' by Robert Swindells

Literacy - After looking at the features of newspapers, we will start to plan and write our own news reports.

Science - We continue to further investigate the parts which make up the digestive system and how they work.

History - We continue to investigate Roman artefacts and technology to deduce what life was like during this time.

 

Remember to keep practising the spellings provided in your spelling homework folder.  Monday's test will be on words starting with the prefix 're-' (eg refresh) along with some words from the Year 3/4 spelling list (these can be found in the back of your organiser).  There will also be words from a previous test thrown in!

 

Check the homework tab for this week's class and maths homework which will give details about what your child has been doing this week and what they will be doing the following week.

 

Remember...it's Children in Need on Friday!  Dress in pyjamas or something spotty and bring in £1 to take part and £1 for purchasing cakes at our cake sale.

Week beginning 05.11.18

Here is a flavour of what we will be getting up to the first week back.

Focused Writing - All of our focused writing this half term will be based on a book called 'The Ice Palace' by Robert Swindells

Literacy - We will start by looking at the features of newspapers.

Science - Our new topic starts with investigating the parts that make up the digestive system.

History - We continue to find out more about life during Roman times by looking at Roman artefacts and technology.

 

Please ensure you continue to read for at least 10 minutes every day and record in your organiser.

Remember to keep practising the year 3/4 spellings (these can be found in the back of your organiser).  The first test will be a baseline assessment on 20 random words, some of which are taken from the year 3/4 spelling list.  The first spelling rule will be words which start with the prefix 're-'.

Week beginning 15.10.18

Here is a flavour of what we will be getting up to this week.

Focused Writing - The children will be completing a writing assessment linked the work they have done this half term on The Twits.

Literacy - Our writing will continue to be linked to a book called Ditherus Wart (the accidental gladiator) by Alan MacDonald.  

History - We really enjoyed working with Titus last week.  This week, we will be finding out more about who Boudicca was.

 

Please ensure you read for at least 10 minutes every day and record in your organiser.

Remember to keep practising the spellings provided in your spelling homework folder.  Monday's test will be on words starting with the prefix 'ir-' (eg irrational) along with some words from the Year 3/4 spelling list (these can be found in the back of your organiser).  There will also be words from a previous test thrown in!

An end of term test will also take place next week on all of the spelling rules we have covered this half term.

Week beginning 08.10.18

Here is a flavour of what we will be getting up to this week.

Focused Writing - Writing a set of instructions linked to a trick for playing on Mr or Mrs Twit.

Literacy - Our writing will continue to be linked to a book called Ditherus Wart (the accidental gladiator) by Alan MacDonald.  

History - Year 4 have Titus, the Roman soldier, visiting this week.  The children will take part in re-enactments linked to Roman times and have the opportunity to handle Roman artefacts.

Titus will be visiting:

4H and 4W on Wednesday 10th October

4C and 4P on Thursday 11th October

Here is a flavour of what we will be getting up to this week.

Focused Writing - Using features of a playscript to write a scene linked to the part of the story where the boys get stuck in a tree in Mr Twit's garden.

Literacy - Our writing will continue to be linked to a book called Ditherus Wart (the accidental gladiator) by Alan MacDonald.

Science - Looking at the states of matter which occur when a volcano erupts.

History - Finding out about the invasion of Julius Ceasar.

 

Please ensure you read for at least 10 minutes every day and record in your organiser.

Remember to keep practising the spellings provided in your spelling homework folder.  Monday's test will be on words containing the <u> sounds using the digraph 'ou' (eg touch )along with four words from the Year 3/4 spelling list (these can be found in the back of your organiser).  There will also be words from a previous test thrown in!

Focused Writing - Writing a piece of dialogue linked to one of Mr Twit's tricks.

Literacy - Our writing this week will be linked to a book called Ditherus Wart (the accidental gladiator) by Alan MacDonald.

Science - Investigating which type of chocolate changes state the quickest.

History - Finding out about different Roman Gods.

 

Please ensure you read for at least 10 minutes every day and record in your organiser.

Remember to keep practising the spellings provided in your spelling homework folder.  Monday's test will be on words containing a suffix which starts with a vowel (eg gardener)along with three words from the Year 3/4 spelling list (these can be found in the back of your organiser).  There will also be some words from the previous test thrown in!

Year 4 have been making mosaic tiles in art as part of the Roman topic.  Have a look at the photos to catch 4C making their tiles out of clay.

Week beginning 17.09.18

Here is a flavour of what we will be getting up to this week.

Focused Writing - Writing a description Mr and Mrs Twit's house.

Literacy - Applying our knowledge of diary features to writing a recount of when Mount Vesuvius erupted in 79AD.

Science - Investigating how materials can change state when heated or cooled.

History - Create a timeline of key events during the Roman era.

Week beginning 3.9.18

Welcome to Year 4 and thank you for a fabulous first week.  We have really enjoyed getting to know you all.  Everyone has got off to a fantastic start and settled in really well.  Remember to keep checking your organisers as your teacher may have put some information in there relevant to your class or maths group. 

 

We had a Character Curriculum day on Thursday where we met up with an Infant class and played some team building games.  We also did some art linked to the different character traits.
