Happy Easter Break!

Making our model of a Stone Age settlement

Week 6 - Week beginning with 01.04.19

This week, we will be:

  • writing our newspaper reports about the Stone Age discovery in Literacy. 
  • comparing and contrasting the Bronze Age to the Iron Age in History.
  • completing the model of our Stone Age settlement in D.T.
  • singing campfire songs around our school campfire!

 

In Maths, Miss Henninger, Mrs Howard and Mrs Wakeling's class will be solving problems involving shape and the four operations. Miss Robinson's maths is continuing their learning on time. Miss Hill and Mrs Frost's maths are focusing on problem solving and reasoning questions.

 

On Friday, children will be participating in an Easter Trail Hunt. There will also be an Easter assembly in the afternoon. 

Week 5 - Week beginning with 25.03.19

This week, we will be:

  • making a discovery in Literacy that shape the rest of our Literacy.
  • investigating different types of soils in Science. 
  • researching Easter and the symbols connected to it in RE.

 

In Maths, Miss Henninger, Mrs Howard and Mrs Wakeling's class will be telling time in five minute increments and discussing 24 hour time. Miss Robinson's maths is starting their topic of time. Miss Hill and Mrs Frost's maths are doing problem solving using time and duration of time.

 

Children are asked to bring in a soil samples from home to help in our Science investigations.

Week 4 - Week beginning with 18.03.19

This week, we will be:

  • analysing and planning newspaper reports in Literacy.
  • writing speech using inverted commas in Focused Writing.
  • learning about different ways to deal with bullying in RE.

 

In Maths, Miss Henninger, Mrs Howard and Mrs Wakeling's class will be beginning to learn about time. Miss Robinson's maths finishing their topic of length and perimeter. Miss Hill and Mrs Frost's maths are learning about Roman numerals and reviewing time in 12 and 24 hours.

 

Creswell Crags is this week! 3JH, 3R and 3GH will be attending on Thursday. 3HW and 3F will be attending on Friday. Please refer to the permission slip for information or pop into your child's class if you have any questions. Children will need a packed lunch and must dress from the weather! We will outside rain or shine. Thanks in advance!

Week 3 - Week beginning with 11.03.19

This week, we will be:

  • discussing the moral dilemmas in the story 'The Tunnel' in Literacy.
  • writing adverts about the Bronze Age in History.
  • conducting an investigation with rocks in Science. 

 

In Maths, Miss Henninger, Mrs Howard and Mrs Wakeling's class are learning to calculate perimeter. Miss Robinson's maths are beginning their learning about perimeter. Miss Hill and Mrs Frost's maths are comparing, adding and subtracting length.

 

Friday is Red Nose Day to raise money for Comic Relief! Children can bring in £1 to wear red or a red accessory. There will also be a Talent Show performance during assembly time. 

World Book Day in Year Three

Week 2 - Week beginning with 04.03.19

This week, we will be:

  • continuing to write our Adventure Stories in Literacy. 
  • creating a Stone Age menu in History.
  • investigating rocks in Science. 

 

In Maths, Miss Henninger, Mrs Howard and Mrs Wakeling's class continuing their learning about measurement. Miss Robinson's maths are starting to learn about measurement. Miss Hill and Mrs Frost's maths are converting units of measure and using perimeter to solve problems. 

 

Thursday is World Book Day! Children can come dressed as their favourite book character or in their pajamas. We will be sharing stories with our partner class in the Infants and creating our very own magical potions.

Spring 2 Week 1 - Week beginning with 25.02.19

This week, we will be:

  • planning and writing our own version of Stone Age Boy in Literacy
  • creating Stonehenge using materials and writing about its purpose
  • describing the insects from James and the Giant Peach.

 

In Maths, Miss Henninger, Mrs Howard and Mrs Wakeling's class are learning about measurement. Miss Robinson's maths are continuing with multiplying and dividing. Miss Hill and Mrs Frost's maths are looking at adding and subtracting lengths as well as perimeter.

Over the break, please remember to:

  • complete your maths homework.
  • practise your timestables on TT Rockstars. 
  • look over your spellings and write them in sentences.
  • READ! 

Week 6 - Week beginning with 11.02.19

This week, we will be:

  • researching the Stone Age using non-fiction texts and hosting a poetry performance for all of Year 3.
  • conducting an investigation in Science. 
  • learning about Stone Henge in History and Art. 

 

In Maths, Miss Henninger, Mrs Howard and Mrs Wakeling's class are having a go at some problem solving and reasoning challenges. Miss Robinson's maths are doing multiplying and dividing. Miss Hill and Mrs Frost's maths are working on bus stop method for division as well as problem solving and reasoning. 

 

This week, Year 3 classes are going to St Leonard's church as part of our RE learning about Christianity! 

 

Parents' Evening on Monday and Tuesday. Please arrive early to have a look through your child's book. 

Week 5 - Week beginning with 04.02.19

This week, we will be:

  • researching the Stone Age using non-fiction texts and writing Stone Age poetry in Literacy.
  • learning about different types of skulls and what that tells us about Stone Age animals' eating habits in Science. 
  • creating a Stone Age timeline of events in History. 

 

In Maths, Miss Henninger, Mrs Howard and Mrs Wakeling's class are learning about inverse operations and getting stuck into some problems involving multiplication and division. Miss Robinson's maths are continuing their learning about fractions. Miss Hill and Mrs Frost's maths are learning the grid method for multiplication. 

Week 4 - Week beginning with 28.01.19

This week, we will be:

  • writing our very own descriptive poetry.
  • learning about muscles in Science. 
  • investigating artefacts about the Stone Age in history. 

 

In Maths, Miss Henninger, Mrs Howard and Mrs Wakeling's class are learning how to find fractions of amounts. Miss Robinson, Miss Hill and Mrs Frost's maths are consolidating their learning about fractions. 

Week 3 - Week beginning with 21.01.19

This week, we will be:

  • began learning about poetry.
  • comparing human and animal skeletons in Science. 
  • investigating what tools Stone Age people used to survive . 

 

In Maths, Miss Henninger, Mrs Howard and Mrs Wakeling's class are learning how to order and add tenths. Miss Robinson is focusing on identifying fractions. Miss Hill and Mrs Frost's maths class are learning about fractions of amounts.

 

On Thursday is Faith and Culture Day! Children can come in their cultural clothes or party clothes and will participate in different activities in order to learn about different religions around the world. 

 

On Friday, we have Pantomime!

Week 2 - Week beginning with 14.01.19

This week, we will be:

  • continuing our writing about instructions in Literacy.
  • making our very own skeletons and learning all about bones in Science. 
  • researching Stone Age shelters in History. 

 

In Maths, Miss Henninger, Mrs Howard and Mrs Wakeling's class are starting to learn about fractions. Miss Robinson, Miss Hill and Mrs Frost's maths class is continuing their learning about data handling and statistics. 

Week 1 - Week beginning with 7.01.19

Welcome back Year 3!

This week, we will be:

  • writing instructions in Literacy.
  • learning about Doggerland in History.
  • discussing the idea of belonging in RE. Remember to bring in your items to show what groups you belong to on your designated day!

 

In Maths, all classes are investigating different ways to collect and interpret data. We will be looking at bar graphs and pictograms and even creating our own!
