Summer 2019

Week 7 - Week beginning with 15.07.19

This week, we will be:

  • reading, writing and performing play scripts in Literacy.
  • to investigate the process of pollination in Science through drama. 
  • to discuss the positive and negative impacts of tourism in Geography  

 

In Maths, all classes will be participating in a peer teaching session! Each class will have the opportunity to plan an activity about one of the Maths topics we have covered this year. They will be responsible for planning and teaching this activity to one of their peers! Each class will also we doing mental maths as well as problem solving activities.   

 

On Monday, children will be watching the Year 6 production of Oliver Twist!

On Friday, it is the Fernwood Festival! Have children come to school dressed in their festival clothes!

Week 6 - Week beginning with 08.07.19

This week, we will be:

  • writing letters to Greenpeace in Literacy.
  • investigating mini beasts in Science.
  • creating our own plans for a Seaside town in Geography  

 

In Maths, Miss Henninger, Mrs Howard and Mrs Wakeling's class are revising what they know about money. Miss Hill and Mrs Frost's Maths are working out problems involving duration of events. Miss Robinson's class is continuing their learning about time. 

 

Reminder: Tuesday is Open Evening! Everyone is invited to come into school between 3:30 and 6 to meet their child's new teacher!

Week 5 - Week beginning with 01.07.19

This week, we will be:

  • writing a newspaper reports in Focused Writing.
  • learning about the importance of bees in Science.
  • researching seaside towns and how they use their land in Geography . 

 

In Maths, all classes are revising time. Children will be learning how to read analogue and digital time to the nearest 5 minutes. Please practise at home!

 

Reminder: Wednesday is Transition Day! Children will go to their class as normal, but then will spend the morning in their new Year 4 class! 

 

INSET DAY ON FRIDAY 

Week 4 - Week beginning with 24.06.19

This week, we will be:

  • writing a newspaper reports in Literacy
  • investigating seed dispersal in Science.
  • creating wave art in Art. 

 

In Maths, Miss Robinson, Mrs Frost and Miss Hill's classes are learning about fractions. Miss Henninger, Mrs Howard and Mrs Wakeling's classes are learning about time.

 

Reminder: Sports Day is on Thursday afternoon! Children are reminded to bring in their PE kits with proper trainers to change in to for the afternoon. They will also need a water bottle and a hat if desired. Events will begin at 1:30 pm. Parents are more than welcome to come and watch!

 

 

Week 3 - Week beginning with 17.06.19

This week, it is BIG ARTS week! Our theme this year is all about Goose Fair!
We will be:

  • writing poetry and a non-chronological report all about Goose Fair. 
  • creating artwork showing Goose Fair at night.
  • constructing a Art Attack style whole class piece of a Goose Fair ride.

 

In Maths, all classes are working on fractions of amounts!

 

For BIG ARTS week, 3JH and 3HW are doing junk modelling! If your child is in one of these classes, please can you send in clean recyclable materials including cardboard boxes, water bottles, toilet paper rolls, etc. From these materials, we will be constructing models of Goose Fair rides!

Week 2 - Week beginning with 10.06.19

This week, we will be:

  • using persuasive writing in Literacy. 
  • learning about coastal creatures in Geography.
  • investigating different types of leaves in Science. 

 

In Maths, Miss Robinson class is learning about fractions of shapes. Miss Hill and Mrs Frost's classes are reviewing all measurement topics including weight, length and time as well as money. Miss Henninger, Mrs Howard and Mrs Wakeling's maths classes are investigating how to calculate equivalent fractions. 

Week 1 - Week beginning with 03.06.19

This week, we will be:

  • writing a letter to Mrs Armitage in Literacy.
  • learning about the effects of erosion in Geography.
  • learning how to sketch and shade seaside shells in Art. 

 

In Maths, Miss Robinson, Miss Hill and Mrs Frost's classes are learning about mass and capacity. Miss Henninger, Mrs Howard and Mrs Wakeling's maths classes are learning how to use the bar method to add and subtract fractions.

Week 5 - Week beginning with 20.05.19

This week, we will be:

  • practising our reading comprehension skills in Literacy.
  • evaluating our Lighthouses in D.T.
  • creating dioramas of the ocean layers in Geography.

 

In Maths, all classes will be practising their arithmetic and reasoning skills!

 

In Geography, children will be needing a shoebox. If you have any empty ones at home, we would really appreciate any you could provide

Thursday is Race for Life! Please ensure your child has an outdoor PE kit with trainers for this event.

Week 4 - Week beginning with 13.05.19

This week, we will be:

  • writing an alternative version of events based on 'Cliffhanger' in Focused Writing.
  • investigating photosynthesis in Science. 
  • learning about the effects of erosion on coastal features in Geography. 

 

In Maths, Miss Robinson, Miss Henninger and Mrs Howard's classes are learning about mass and capacity. 

 

In D.T., children will be needing a Pringles tube, including the lid! Please bring one in as soon as possible!

In Geography, children will be needing a shoebox. If you have any empty ones at home, we would really appreciate any you could provide.

Week 3 - Week beginning with 06.05.19

This week, we will be:

  • writing an alternative version of the story 'Tuesday' in Literacy.
  • investigating how water is transported through a plant in Science. 
  • learning how beaches are formed through an activity in Geography. 

 

In Maths, all classes are working on identifying, describing and building 3D shapes. 

 

In D.T., children will be needing a Pringles tube, including the lid! Please bring one in as soon as possible!

In Geography, children will be needing a shoebox. If you have any empty ones at home, we would really appreciate any you could provide.

Week 2- Week beginning with 29.04.19

This week, we will be:

  • researching layers of the ocean to make an information text in Literacy.
  • creating dioramas in Geography about the ocean layers.
  • learning about germination in Science.

 

In Maths, Miss Henninger, Mrs Howard and Mrs Wakeling's class will be identifying acute, obtuse and right angles. Miss Robinson's maths is also continuing their learning on shape. Miss Hill and Mrs Frost's maths are looking at different types of lines and symmetry.  

 

 

In D.T., children will be needing a Pringles tube, including the lid! Please bring one in as soon as possible!

In Geography, children will be needing a shoebox. If you have any empty ones at home, we would really appreciate any you could provide.

Week 1- Week beginning with 23.04.19

This week, we will be:

  • beginning our new Focused Writing book - Cliffhanger!
  • learning about pulley systems in D.T.
  • finding different oceans and seas around the world.

 

In Maths, Miss Henninger, Mrs Howard and Mrs Wakeling's class will be identifying 2D shapes using properties as well as discussing parallel and perpendicular lines. Miss Robinson's maths is also starting their topic of shape. Miss Hill and Mrs Frost's maths are looking at 2D shapes, right angles and parallel and perpendicular lines.  

 

 

In D.T., children will be needing a Pringles tube, including the lid! Please bring one in as soon as possible!
