Autumn 2019

Week beginning: 16th September 2019

Here is a flavour of what we will be getting up to this week:

Literacy - we will be learning about writing dialogue using inverted commas and writing our own conversation between some of the characters from 'Ditherus Wart: Accidental Gladiator'

Science - we will be doing a carousel of experiments to investigate and observe changes of state.

History - we will be learning about the power of the Roman army, specifically drawing and labelling Roman soldiers.

RE - we will continue our holy books topic by learning about the rules for looking after The Qur'an .

Please see your maths homework for what you will be learning this week.

Remember to read every evening for at least 10 minutes and record it in your organiser. Merit assembly on Friday this week is about reading so let's see all the fantastic reading you are doing at home.

Our spelling rule for this week is looking at the prefix 'il-', remember to practise these on the sheet in your spelling folder and bring them in on the day of your spelling test.

On Friday, letters went home about Roman day that is coming up in a few weeks. Please sign and return your letters as soon as possible. It will be a fantastic day and us teachers may just join you in dressing up as a Roman for the day!

Looking forward to another great week!

We had to work as a team, communicate and show resilience to solve the problem of passing a hoop around a circle without letting go of our hands.

Welcome back!  We hope you have had a fabulous Summer break.  We have lots of exciting things planned for Year 4 and we are really looking forward to the start of a new term.

This week we will be looking at our character curriculum starting with 'courage'.  We will also begin to find out about the Romans which is our topic for the Autumn Term.  Our literacy work will be based on a Roman-themed fiction book called 'Ditherus Wart - Accidental Gladiator'.

Keep your eye on the website for updates relating to homework and activities that we have been doing in class.  Maths and class homework will be handed out on a Friday for returning the following Thursday.  There will also be spelling homework to prepare for a test each week.  Remember to read for at least 10 minutes a day and record in your organiser.

A big focus this year in maths is times tables so remember to keep practising using times tables rock stars.

We hope you have a fun and enjoyable start to the new year.
