Autumn 2019

Week beginning 6.1.2020

 

Wow, how time flies! A massive well done from the whole of team 6 for successfully completing your first full term in year 6, two more to go and then you will be at big school!  

 

Here are some of what we will be getting up to in the first week back after Christmas:

 

Literacy – We will be studying recounts and getting to grips with our new book ‘Trash.’

Science – We will be exploring ideas around the theory of evolution, inheritance and adaptation.

Geography – We will be starting our new topic of ‘Environmental Issues.’ Feel free to do some research before we start.

R.E – We will be moving on from Judaism and studying at Buddhism.

 

Remember to read every evening for at least 10 minutes and record it in your organiser over the holidays, you could even ask Santa for a new book! Your teachers will be checking your organiser every week. Also you must be working on your spellings using the resources sent home.

Week beginning 16.12.19

 Here is some of what we will be getting up to in the coming week:

Literacy – We will be finishing off our autobiography work and completing some winter/Christmas themed tasks.

History – Reflecting on our WW2 topic and learning about VE Day.

Art – Completing our poppy sculptures and reviewing others.

Reminders:

Thursday am (19th Dec) is our Christmas coffee morning- make sure you know your words ready for a festive sing. Thursday pm is the Year 6 party- don't forget party clothes and some party food.

Friday is toy day- bring in a game you can share with your friends and classmates.

Christmas is getting closer, we can hear those sleigh bells jingling. He is what we are doing this week:

 

Literacy – Continuing our work on autobiographies 

History – We will be looking at 'Operation Barbarossa'

How is it December already?! An exciting month ahead. Let's take a look at what we will be learning next week...

 

Literacy – we will be writing our own biographies and autobiographies.  

History – We will looking at the role of women during the war.

Week beginning 25.11.19

 

We have had a very busy week with all of the trip to Beth Shalom and careers week. We hope you feel inspired by all the people that you met. I am sure you have some new careers in mind.

 

 Here are some of what we will be getting up to in the coming week:

Literacy – we will be starting to look at play scripts, ready to write our own.

D.T. - we will be making our own World War 2 fighter planes. .  

History – We will be looking at the Battle of Dunkirk and learning all about the Dunkirk spirit.

Character Curriculum – We will continue our work on empathy.

Week beginning 18.11.19

 Here is some of what we will be getting up to in the coming week:

Literacy – We will be producing a range of writing including job adverts based on careers week.

Science - Investigating electrical circuits.

History – Reflecting on our trip to Beth Shalom and discussing empathy.

P.E – Continuing to demonstrate and improve our table tennis skills

Reminders:

6W and 6RN are going to Beth Shalom on Monday 18th and 6SC and 6HC are going on Tuesday 19th. Remember a waterproof coat and a packed lunch :) .

The careers fair is on Wednesday 20th - you will have the opportunity to explore different careers and ask questions. Reminder to dress up in your dream job role on Friday 22nd November.

 Here are some of what we will be getting up to in the coming week:

Literacy – We will be continuing our work on the Hindenburg disaster and producing a newspaper.

Music - We will be making composing some of our own music.

History – We will be learning about Pearl Harbor.

Character Curriculum – We will be looking at empathy in everyday life.

Week beginning 4th November

Welcome back!

 

This week we are researching and writing a recount about the Hindenberg Disaster.

In Science, we will begin our topic on circuits.

Our art over the next couple of weeks is linked to The Blitz - keep an eye out for photographs to follow!

Guys, an awesome start to year 6 - what a lovely year group we have. On behalf of all the year 6 staff, we would like to say a huge thank you for your effort so far.

Week beginning 14.10.19

Wow, your first term in year 6 nearly complete, one week to go not that anyone is counting. We continue to be impressed by your behavior and hard work! We have had a very busy week with all of the assessments. A huge well done from all of the year 6 team, we are so impressed with what you know and we are confident that you will all make great progress this year.  

 

 Here are some of what we will be getting up to in the coming week:

 

Literacy – we will be writing an informal letter to Bruno’s Grandma.

D.T. - we will be making our very own Anderson Shelters using a range of materials.  

 

History – We have a whole day dedicated to World War 2. This will be happening on Wednesday 16th October. Please come in dressed up in a World War 2 outfit and be prepared for lots of different activities all based on the war. We have also arranged for special guests to come in to talk about their experiences during the war.

 

Character Curriculum – We will move on from the character trait of courage and begin to look at inclusion.

 

Remember to read every evening for at least 10 minutes and record it in your organiser. Your teachers will be checking your organiser every week. Our spelling rule for this week is looking at is homophones, remember to practise these on the sheet in your spelling folder and bring them in to school regularly.

A big reminder that parent’s evening is on Monday 14th and Tuesday 15th and 6N’s class assembly is on Thursday 17th October.

Week Beginning 07.10.19

 

Another great week in year 6!

 Here is a flavour of what we will be getting up to this week:

Literacy and Maths –   Next week is assessment week, we will be carrying out assessments in maths and literacy- please don't worry, this is to inform us of any areas we need to focus on and help your children with.

Science - we will be continuing our work on light. We will  be making a periscope using mirrors and our understanding of how light travels.

History - we will be looking at rationing    

Art- we will be creating a painting in the style of Norman Wilkinson

DT- we will be beginning to create our air raid shelters based on our research in history.

 

Please remember it is WW2 day on Wednesday 16th October- don't forget you can come in WW2 fancy dress. Also we love to have parents/grandparents in on the day to talk about their or their family's experiences of WW2. If you would be interested in this please let your class teacher know.

Week Beginning 30.1.19

 

Well done year six, we continue to be impressed by your behaviour and hard work! We have made a good start to our World War 2 topic and have been impressed by your hard work across the whole curriculum.

 Here is a flavour of what we will be getting up to this week:

Literacy – we will be writing a detailed description of Lieutenant Kotler  

Science - we will be continuing our work on light. Please remember your box to make a pin-hole camera. We will also be making a periscope using mirrors and our understanding of how light travels.

History - we will be looking at air raid shelters and designing our own.   

DT- we will be designing air raid shelters based on our research in history.

Maths- homework will be explained to you by your teacher.
